Cancer-fighting foods stimulate your immune system and can prevent the tumor from spreading. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables is necessary to fight lymphoma. An adult should have at least two to three cups of vegetables and fruits per day. You can have a combination of cruciferous vegetables and leafy greens, as they are high in antioxidants. Fruits and fresh fruit juice should be a part of your diet as well.
Some of the vegetables and fruits which are highly beneficial to fight lymphoma are:
Cruciferous vegetables
You should include highly nutritious cruciferous vegetables in your diet. These have cancer-fighting properties. They are named after the New Latin word for a crucifix as the blossoms of these plants resemble a cross. Gluconilates, a bioactive compound present in cruciferous vegetables, has anti-cancer properties. They are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants which contribute to their healthful effects. Some cancer-fighting cruciferous vegetables are Brussels sprouts, kale, broccoli, and cauliflower.
Another advantage of cruciferous vegetables in their cancer-fighting properties comes in the form of their efficiency in breaking down estrogen in the body in a healthy way to prevent cancer. Watercress is a lesser-known cousin of broccoli. It is a highly resourceful source of healthy nutrients which fight cancer.
Green leafy vegetables
Spinach, coriander, swiss chard, collard greens – they all have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The carotenoids found in these vegetables can inhibit the growth of cancers. Consume at least one serving of green leafy vegetables every day. Have them as a soup or salad.
Berries
Berries are not only super tasty but also full of antioxidants. Blueberries, cranberries, strawberries are all great antioxidants. Try eating them fresh. If you’re shopping for dried berries, buy the sugar-free ones. Berries can be added to cereals and smoothies. They enhance the flavor of smoothies. Add soy milk, almond milk or coconut milk to the smoothies, instead of dairy milk.
Grapes
The skin of grapes contains a polyphenol called resveratrol. Resveratrol is highly antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Research has proven that it inhibits cancer and tumor growth in lymph nodes.
Green tea
Try to include green tea in your diet as it is rich in antioxidants that fight free radicals. Avoid adding sugar or milk to the tea.
Fruits
Fruits like guava, oranges, and apples are very high in vitamins and minerals. Citrus fruits help to boost immunity. Consume fresh fruit or homemade fruit juice. Juices bought over the counter contain high levels of sugar which is detrimental to health.
White sugar is highly acidic and increases the risks of cancer and metastasis of the tumor. Invest in a good juicer. You can add vegetables to the juice to have added health benefits.
Reishi mushroom
The Reishi mushroom is a fungus that grows in various hot and humid locations in Asia. This fungus has been an essential part of Eastern medicine. This medicinal mushroom is very powerful in preventing cancer cell growth and helps to prevent cancer from spreading. Reishi mushrooms build immunity in the body too.
During the treatment of cancer, consuming Reishi mushroom tea helps to reduce fatigue and depression, which is a common side effect of cancer treatment. It is difficult to obtain fresh Reishi mushrooms and that’s why most people use dried extracts. They are added to tea or consumed as supplements.
When it comes to fruits and vegetables, try consuming organic ones as much as you can. Shop in organic food stores or at organic counters. You might find them a little bit expensive but organic vegetables are always better for your health.
